Papa Curvin
Nestled in the heart of Jamaica, the guest house is more than just a place to stay—it's a home filled with love, music, and a deep connection to the island's culture, run by the remarkable Papa Curvin.
Papa Curvin, a renowned musician, touring the world has journeyed from the heights of global fame to the serene North coast of Jamaica, where he now devotes his life to his guest house, reggae music and the values of the Rasta culture. Raised on the mountain of "Freedom," Curvin's upbringing shaped his humility and deep connection to his roots, despite the international success that took him to world-famous stages. Today, he is a beloved figure in Jamaica, known not only for his musical talent but also for his wisdom and generosity, earning him the affectionate title of "Papa."
Mama Joan
Mama Joan, originally from Denmark, brought her own incredible story to the island. Leaving behind a life of luxury in Hellerup, where she lived and enjoyed a high-powered career, Joan chose a different path, a path of simplicity, nature, and a mission to help others. Inspired from a young age by a deep sense of justice and a love for nature, Joan transformed her life after a significant turning point in 2004. She embraced the vibrant, natural lifestyle of Jamaica, finding peace and purpose in reggae music and the Rasta culture and has been in Jamaica since 2015.
Real Jamaica Cottages
Together, they welcome you at Papa Curvin's small, authentic Jamaican retreat, where guests are welcomed not just as visitors but as part of their extended family. The guest house, with its traditional style cottages and colourful surroundings, offers an insight into the quiet, natural lifestyle they practice. But it's more than just a place to stay—it's a place where the couple shares their life’s mission of spreading joy, love, and helping those in need.
Each summer, Joan returns to Denmark, where she works intensively at a dementia center to fund her charity missions in Jamaica. Whether it’s distributing shoes to children, supporting local education, or simply sharing a meal with those in need, Joan’s life is a testament to her belief in living authentically and giving back to the community.
For Papa Curvin and Mama Joan, life is about more than material wealth — it's about inner peace, self-discovery, and making a positive impact in the world. Their guest house is a reflection of these values, offering a unique experience that blends the rich culture of Jamaica with the warmth and generosity of its hosts.

The Building of
Real Jamaica Cottages
2010-2025
Papa Curvin has poured his heart and soul into building a space that reflects his journey, passion, and the vibrant spirit of Jamaica. Over the years, he transformed the property into a haven of music, culture, and connection. Every corner of the place tells a story—from the handcrafted cottages to the lush gardens brimming with fruit trees, each element thoughtfully designed to offer comfort and authenticity. The sun deck, cave, garden and shared spaces all bear his touch, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Curvin's vision was to create more than just a home; he built a sanctuary where people from around the world can come together, immerse themselves in Jamaican culture, and leave with lasting memories.
A: There are multiple options, for shorter distances on the main road like Oracabessa, Turtle release, Beaches or even Port Maria, you can catch a Route Taxi. Other options for longer trips and tours, you can hire a driver for the day, book a tour or rent a car.
Q: How do we get around?
A: Yes, but we only recommend very good swimmers to do so, and only when the water is still. The Beach is very close, waking distance so even when the water is not still then you can swim at Oracabessa Fish Sanctuary or James Bond Beach.
Q: Can we swim from the cliffs?

This place is just amazing we booked for 3 nights but stayed at least for 7. Our hosts Papa Curvin and Joan were so nice and lovely that made us to feel like home and we enjoyed their company and the nice conversations. Ive even got a lil surprise for my birthday and Joan was always there with advice and local recommendations. We also loved the company of the lovely dogs with lil puppies. I would come back there any time.

Real Jamaica…A little slice of paradise tucked in the forest yet by the ocean. The real jewels though were the hosts Papa Curvin and his wife, Joan. Every guest I met was a returning guest because they loved their experience so much that they needed more time. I felt like I was family. Joan even got my grumpy teen to join a yoga class on their beautiful deck overlooking the sea and my daughter loved it! I could go on and on but do yourself a favor and have a real Jamaican experience with Real Jamaica…you will find yourself returning as well! Thank you Papa C and Joan💖see you next year!

I am really at a loss of words to properly give Papa Curvin and Joan a review that encompasses everything and gives them the proper recognition they deserve. I originally was to stay else where… and when I booked very last minute, the day of… Joan was very responsive and kind. I was not ready for what greeted me upon my arrival. The property is absolutely amazing .. great place to relax, recharge and just be!! Then to add the beautiful souls of Papa Curvin and Joan.. just wow!!! I came as a solo back packer… enjoying life’s journey… and left with a family!! So much authentic kindness, love and wisdom. Much love and respect to these beautiful people and their paradise.

I can't explain how Papa Curvins and Mama Joan made us feel right at home!!!! Their jungle property has available fruit trees(when in season), on overlook of the ocean, relaxing ambience and so much more. They gave us clear directions on how to get where ever we wanted to go and an estimate on how much it should charge (so we don't get swindled into paying to much). Mama Joans breakfast is out of this world!!!!
So delicious...EVERYTHING FRESH!!!!! They're driver Humphrey is the best as well. Felt very welcomed here we are planning to come back for a longer stay!! One Love
